A list of some video games I have played and thought were good
- Single Player Games: Going Solo
- To the Moon
This is a linear game about granting someone's last wish before they die. It is a game that uses pixel graphics to tell it's story, and in terms of gameplay elements it it really light. There is really only mild puzzle solving required to progress through the story. The story, however, is what really makes this game great. There are plenty of great moments that are littered throughout the story, and the pacing the game is great. There are plenty of light moments to go along with the serious story this game portrays. Throughout the game the main characters are trying to grant the final wish... to make it to the moon.
- Celeste
This is another pixel art game that follows the story of ayoung girl named Madeline on her journey up Celeste mountain. This game has simple controls, but really uses them to their fullest, and combines them with different gameplay challenges for different areas to really challenge the player in pushing them to try and climb the mountain. The game is unforgiving in it's dificulty, but despite the high level of difficulty I never really got upset at the game, which I consider to be a testament to it's alluring story and charm.
- To the Moon
- Multiplayer games: Better With Friends
- TowerFall
This is a fun little game with friends. It is about playing as an archer and trying to take out the other players in order to get the most kills and win. This game was also created by the same team who would go on to make Celeste, and their ability to make in depth gameplay with very simple controls was on display here. Another great thing about this game is the autobalancing it has. Whenever a player gets too far ahead, it gives a slight boost to players that are too far behind to help them catch up, whether it be with more arrows or with a shield to absorb a blow. This mechanic has led to many games being close up until the end, something I have rarely seen in a game. Due to it's simple controls, anyone can pick it up and be good, but there is stil enough ways to show skill in the game.
- League of Legends
This game is one of the largest games in the world, and the one I have probably sunk the most time in to. This game is classified as a MOBA(Multiplayer Noline Battle Arena) and is about fighting down three lanes to get to the enemies base to destroy. Getting down to the other side, however, is the hard part and the variety of ways to make this happen is what makes the game interesting. For one, each player takes control of a champion, which is a character with unique abilities and gameplay mechanics to help them defeat the other team. With over 140 to choose from and more being added, there are plenty to choose from. While there are many different other elements of the game, the core concept of fighting the other team and then outplaying them in order towin is what makes the game so much fun, and is a key factor to why it is one of the most popular games in the world.
