Every lane has their own persona, Mid is usually a nuker, bot is the adc that wants to farm all day, jungle is always there to help out, and you top are usually the tank. The reason tanks go top lane for some of the meta recently has been because they are able to handle the 1v2s or 1v1 scenario. They allow the jungler to go help out the other lanes that will carry while they can focus on gettign tanky. Their main goal is to get as big as possible adn protect the squsihies who can get blown up when targeted in teamfights. Or they can initiate the teamfights. Both teams will have squishies you just need to know which one to focus and protect so that your team can come ahead in these fights.
